Temple
Kashinath Mandir
Kashinath Mandir is also known as the swimming temple. It was built on the small island Ile aux Goyavièrs close to the village Postre de Flaq. At the moment of building this island only could be reached through a small dike. It was possible to walk to the temple in the moments of low tides only. In moments of high tides the whole dike was under water. Than it looks like the house of Hindu divinities is in the middle of the ocean. That is the reason why it is called the swimming temple.
Today there is still water around the island but they have built a fixed road to reach the temple. Now there is always the possibility to stay in contact with the godheads of the Hindu religion.
On the old share of dike you can still have a look at an old location where the burning ceremonies of the dead Hindu persons were celebrated.
Kashinath Mandir itself is an artwork in white colour. Inside of a canopied pavilions there are a lot of colourful figures and statures of the Hindu goddesses.
Every day you can see ladies in glamorous saris, how they put oblations or pray in silence.
The surrounding of this temple is pure silence and clear Water with a lot of colourful small fishes. In the distance there are beautiful lagoons around this island with very green mangrooves.
