Chez Michou Ice Cream Parlor
One of the few ice cream parlors in Mauritius is situated in the Oasis complex in Flic en Flac on the coast road in front of the public beach. While having a Belgian ice cream at Chez Michou you can enjoy the nice view on the longest sandy beach of Mauritius.
All further information can be found in the form of a small interview with the nice Belgian owner:
Q: Is it right that your ice cream parlor was the first here in the neighborhood?
A: Yes, that is correct. We have opened two years ago and were until recently the only one in this resort providing Belgian ice cream.
Q: What is the difference to the well know Italian ice cream?
A: The major difference is that Belgian ice cream is produced out of cream while Italian ice cream is made out of milk. That makes a big difference in the consistence as well as the taste. Belgian ice cream is creamier.
Q: Do you produce your ice cream yourself?
A: No, but a friend of mine, who also comes from Belgium produced it for me in the north of Mauritius and delivers it.
Q: How many different flavors do you offer?
A: At all we offer 17 different tastes. Some are Chocolate, rum with raisin, cranberry, peanuts, praline and coconut. One ball cost Rs 40 which is about €1.
Q: Do you offer other foods as well?
A: Yes of course. We also provide different ice cream creations like banana split, Bounty bowl, tutti-frutti etc. and diverse drinks like milk shakes, coffee and tea, alcoholic drinks and additionally we have different cakes, croissants, biscuits and in the morning we serve continental breakfast till 11.00 am.
Q: What are your opening hours?
A: We are opened Monday to Sunday from 8.00a.m to 11:00 pm, depending on the season up to 12p.m. During low season we are closed on Mondays. Breakfast is served until 11.00 o’clock.
Q: Do you also give special events sometimes like life music or so on?
A: So far not.
Q: Do you have something what you would like to tell your clients?
A: Mhh yes, one specialty is that you get the possibility to watch the sunset every night from our terrace while having a delicious ice cream. This is a place where you can spoil yourself entirely.

Beach House
The Beach House which exists only since November 2008 is one of the fanciest Restaurants in Grand Baie. It is quite a small restaurant which is located in the centre of Grand Baie directly on the beach. The ambience and the location of the Beach House are perfect – there is no other way of expression! If you want to have a delicious cocktail with a subsequently refreshing dip in the sea or if you like to enjoy a gorgeous dinner while watching the sunset and listening to the rush of the Indian Ocean, the Beach House will be the right place to be. Furthermore the Beach House in Grand Baie is a place for every clientele. The way of looking and dressing are irrelevant – everybody is welcome. That is the reason for the interesting mix of different people, nations and cultures which represent the guests of the Beach House. The menu consists mainly of different salads, burgers, seafood and barbeque. Additionally a daily menu of the season is provided. But I have to say that the prices of the Beach House are not the cheapest. A main dish will cost you round about Rs 450 (ca. € 11). However the ambience and the quality of food are worth the money which means the price/performance ratio is adequate. Frequently life-music events as well as other special events like theme-evenings are given in the weekends. Additionally a Ladies-Night is given every Thursday and a Happy-Hour is given every Friday from 6.00 to 7.00 pm. In case of important sports events which are broadcasted in the TV you will get the possibility to watch them on a big screen and in a lovely atmosphere in the Beach House. Interesting to know for all parents among us, is that a private nanny can be hired on weekends, which provides many nice activities for the children on the beach while the parents can enjoy a nice time knowing that their children are in good hands. Obviously the owner of the Beach House is managing the business with a figured out and well implemented concept. The nice owner from South Africa has big plans for the future.
Opening Hours: The Beach House in Grand Baie is open seven days a week from 11.30 am to around 1.00 am. Warm dishes are available from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm and from 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm. Happy Hour is every Friday from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm and Ladies Night is every Thursday.

CUREPIPE
Ginger Restaurant
After visiting Trou aux Cerfs I would recommend you to relax a bit in Ginger restaurant. It is only some minutes away from Curepipes’ main attractions and here you can have just a coffee, a little snack in the afternoon or an exquisite meal. Here you can find the so called fusion cuisine which represents a combination of western and eastern food with a contemporary twist. What I really like about Ginger is that the dishes are always influenced by a special Asian region and not by Asia as a whole. If you only wish to have a little snack you can also get sandwiches, crêpes and paninis at a reasonable price. To make the interior match the modern cuisine Ginger is furnished in a minimal and classy yet cozy way. Colors such as brown, beige, wine-red in combination with bamboos are being used which creates a relaxing environment. As Ginger is situated in the shopping complex garden village you can enjoy your meal inside as well as outside. Especially for dinner it is very advisable to make a reservation in advance.
